High potential and gifted education (HPGE)

At Pelican Flat Public School, we recognise that some students learn quickly and demonstrate exceptional strengths in areas such as creativity, problem-solving, leadership or sport.

We nurture these strengths from an early stage, providing engaging and challenging learning opportunities that extend students’ thinking and encourage them to reach their full potential. Our teachers plan lessons and activities that inspire curiosity, confidence and a love of learning, helping advanced learners grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

At Pelican Flat Public School, we believe every child has unique strengths waiting to be discovered. Our teachers recognise potential early and nurture each student to be the best they can be.

Tailored Lessons

Every student learns in different ways and at different paces. Our teachers design lessons that respond to each child’s ability, providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting, engaging and meaningful.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students have many opportunities to develop their talents across a range of areas including the creative arts, sport, leadership and academic pursuits. We encourage every student to explore their interests and celebrate their achievements.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Pelican Flat students can also participate in state-wide programs and enrichment experiences that extend and challenge their learning. These opportunities inspire confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
At Pelican Flat Public School, our teachers use evidence-based strategies to identify and nurture high potential and gifted learners. Classroom programs include differentiated lessons, extension activities and flexible grouping that challenge students to think deeply, explore creatively and achieve their personal best.
Across our school, the community and beyond

Opportunities for high potential and gifted students extend beyond the classroom through a variety of school-wide programs and partnerships. Students can develop their talents through leadership roles, creative arts, sport, academic challenges and community projects, helping them grow in confidence and thrive in a range of learning experiences.

Our Pelican Connectors Student Representative Council give students a strong voice in shaping school life. These teams lead initiatives that promote belonging, inclusion and positive change across the school. Through their roles, students learn to collaborate, communicate and take responsibility, developing important leadership skills and pride in contributing to their school community.

At Pelican Flat Public School, we are committed to providing a rich and varied HPGE experience that empowers gifted learners to thrive across all areas of their development, both within our school community and beyond.
